I think my problem with the "find it in yourself" message is that only works for things that you can find in yourself: acceptance, confidence, creative passion. But it feels like what the other person (the "you" in the song) really wants is fame and widespread celebrity. And that what the singer is suggesting is that widespread celebrity is not what it's cracked up to be. Which is strange coming from someone who is a celebrity, and who isn't trying to get rid of that celebrity to stay true to his roots. I hope this clarifies the point I was trying to make.

LOVED this very well-writte and, I think, perceptive article. I think Josh Groban would appreciate it because from what I've heard and read him say, that's him.

BTW, I think he created a lot of blowsy alcoholics. LOL

This is a ridiculous review! How you manage to turn "Find it in YOURSELF" into women are arm candy is really messed up. Michael has always given credit to his wonderful family for his success. His wife is an extremely successful woman and he is very supportive of her career. How you could actually listen to this song and come up with such an interpretation is beyond me. The message is remain true to your roots, don't be a sell out, and you have a problem with that. Glad you're not in my family!

!!! Upon reading this, I looked back in my Picasa to find the aforementioned picture. The caption on it - no lie - is 'Non-standard badminton uniform.' The times, they change.

That's pretty damn disturbing. Great point re: choices being a reflection of the player's morality. I remember being in high school and playing Myst III (really, on of the most up-to-date games I've played in my life, so apologies for the dated reference....) In the end you have the choice of letting the villain/victim return to his homeland to see if his family is still alive, or you can leave him to rot within sight of it.

I let him go home, but just out of curiosity I went back to where I last saved the game in order to see what would happen if I left him to rot. The actor's performance was pathetically heartbreaking, and I felt like shit. I still kind of do, thinking back on it. I consoled myself by knowing that my initial choice had been to do the right thing.

In that game, if you made the cruel choice at the end, not only were you forced to see the human wreckage you'd created, but when you go back to Atrus to get your reward he is So Disappointed In You.

Obviously it's not a shoot-em-up sort of game, but talk about a moral lesson.

I lost some data awhile ago. It was a bunch of websites I created for people. I nuked the folder by accident and couldn't get it back. Shortly after that I invested in an external hard drive and set up Time Machine. Aidra's hard drive died also, but it was after I set her machine to back up to the Time Machine drive. After the apple store replaced the drive and brought it back she picked up right where she left off.

I can only recommend Time Machine if you're still on a mac.
